Magazine Advert Analysis

For my magazine analysis I chose to analyse that Kasabian used to advertise their album "Empire" when it was released in August 2006.

The advert used the same picture as the digipak album did for the cover and therefore helps promote the album further. Readers of the magazine will instantly see the image and then be able to link it to the albumin if they see it or buy it.

The picture is meant to show the king of clubs and allow the K to also mean Kasabian. The old fashioned image positioned in the middle of the card and that it is a king relates to the name of the album.

All of the text added underneath the picture so that the image can be used to attract attention and then the text below can further inform people. The font used on the card that shows the band name is a signature font for Kasabian and the font used for the album name is old shorthand style like the old fashioned theme of the advert.

From this advert I have learnt that an advert does not need to be crammed with words and just needs to get people's attentions, be comparable to the campaign and show the information that people need to know about the digipak release

Digipak Analysis

The digipak I have chosen to analyse is an album called "Alive Till I'm Dead" by Professor Green published in 2010.

The album is coloured quite dark and the pictures are simple and just show the artist. In all of the pictures of the artist, he is looking away or not directly and the camera. the cover shows a low angle of the artists face which allows you to see his tattoo and shows him almost as if he thinks he is better than you and that you are not worthy of his time.

The font used is thin, easy to read and simple. On the back the text is white and turned 90 degrees anticlockwise so that it fits in with the theme on the back of everything being vertical and taller. This includes the text, artist and the black to white transition in the picture.

The album is counter typical of the genre and looks sophisticated unlike many rap albums which are in cities and often include graffiti. The inside follows the theme of dark colours and the inside back panel shows a picture of the artist showing off his scar. This scar is also referenced in one of the songs in the album where he says “chicks dig scars” showing that he uses it to impress people.

From analysing this album I have learnt that an album doesn't need to be full of action to make a statement and be effective at showing the artist in a way that will appeal the audience

Final Digipak

I was unhappy with just designing a digipak and leaving it as an image on a computer so I remeasured the dimentions and put it into an actual case.
